MS Dhoni is an Indian cricketer who is best remembered for leading the Indian ODI team for his second World Cup victory in 2011.

He made his ODI debut for the national team against Bangladesh on December 23, 2004. Indian ODI team from 2007 to 2016. 

He made his debut as a Test player against Sri Lanka on 2 December 2005 and led the team in Test cricket from 2008 to 2014. 

Known for his aggressive playing style, he is considered one of the best "finishers" in the limited overs format of the game.


He is one of the most successful Indian captains and holds many records for his captaincy. Notably, the Indian team became the No. 1 Test team in 2009 under his captaincy. 

He also led the Indian team to win the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. 

While his achievements in the IPL format are often overseen by his international records, he also helped his team Chennai Super Kings win the IPL twice in 2010 and 2011.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born on 7 July 1981 in Ranchi, Bihar (now in Jharkhand) , originally from a Rajput family in Uttarakhand. 

His father, Pan Singh, is a retired employee of MECON (a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Steel) , where he has held junior management positions. His mother Devaki Devi is a housewife.

His brother is a politician, while his sister is an English teacher.

He studied at the DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir located in Shyamali, Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. 

He was an athletic student, but was initially more interested in badminton and football. He was the goalkeeper of his school's football team.

He continued to perform well and was selected for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Under-16 Championship Team during the 1997-98 season. He started taking cricket seriously only after completing his 10th standard.

In 1998, m. s. Dhoni, who till then was playing only at school and club level cricket, was selected to play for the Central Coal Fields Limited (CCL) team. 

He impressed Deval Sahay, the vice-president of the Bihar Cricket Association, with his determination and hard work, which opened up opportunities for him to play first-class cricket.

During the 1998-99 season, he failed to make it to either the East Zone Under-19 team or the Rest of India team, but the following season he was selected for the East Zone Under-19 team for the CK Naidu Trophy. Unfortunately, he could not perform well and his team finished last in the tournament.

He made his Ranji Trophy debut for the Bihar cricket team during the 1999-2000 season, scoring 68 runs in the second innings. He scored his first first-class century during the game against Bengal the following season, but his team lost the game.

Coming from a middle-class Indian family, money was not a luxury for him. In fact, at the age of 20, he moved to Midnapore, West Bengal, after securing a Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) job at Kharagpur railway station through Sports Kota. He served as a railway employee from 2001 to 2003.

In 2001, he was selected to play the Duleep Trophy for the Eastern Region; however, the Bihar Cricket Association could not give this information to Dhoni in time, as he was in Midnapore. He came to know this at a time when his team had already reached the venue Agartala for the match. 

While a friend of his had hired a car for him to reach Kolkata Airport for the flight, the car broke down halfway, resulting in Deep Dasgupta working as a wicketkeeper.

During the 2002-2003 season, he continued to perform well in the Ranji Trophy and Deodhar Trophy, which earned him recognition. As part of the East Zone team, he won the Deodhar Trophy in the 2003-2004 season, in which he scored another century.

He was eventually selected for the India A squad to tour Zimbabwe and Kenya during 2003-2004 He took 7 catches and stumped during a match against Zimbabwe XI. 

He helped his team defeat Pakistan A in back-to-back matches, scoring a half-century in the first, followed by two centuries. With such a performance, he turned his attention to the then Indian national team captain Sourav Ganguly.
